Ingredients:
-
1 lb ground beef (80/20 fat ratio is ideal)
-
Salt and black pepper
-
4 burger buns
-
Your favorite toppings: Sliced cheese, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, pickles, ketchup, mustard, mayo, etc.
Instructions:
-
Prep: Preheat your griddle to medium-high heat.
-
Forming: Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and loosely form into balls (don't overwork the meat).
-
THE SMASH: Place a ball onto the hot griddle and immediately smash it down with a sturdy spatula to create a thin patty (about 1/4 inch thick). Season liberally with salt and pepper.
-
The Sear: Cook undisturbed for 1-2 minutes until a crust forms on the bottom. Flip and cook for another minute or until desired doneness is achieved.
-
Melt Cheese: In the last 30 seconds of cooking, add cheese slices to the patties if desired.
-
Assemble: Toast the buns on the griddle. Layer your patty, toppings, and condiments onto the buns.
